Tangible Love for Peace

By Cathy Sheppard of Paducah, Kentucky, USA

…when you are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God.  Mosiah 1:49

The Tri City Community of Christ Peace Club draws children from the entire county. Established several years ago, the program now focuses on broader family ministry.

Peace Club families attend services, seek baptism and confirmation, and receive family and home ministry. Peace Club ministries touch the lives of hundreds of children and families. The ministry includes securing housing, medical care, food, clothing, utilities, employment, and other services.

Partners include schools, community pantries, law enforcement, children’s services, the domestic-violence office, and court advocacy agencies. Peace Club ministries share the peace of Jesus Christ by bringing restoration and healing into the lives of children and adults.

The generosity of Community of Christ helps to support the Tri City Peace Club through Tangible Love grants, now funded through the Abolish Poverty, End Suffering mission initiative. Congregational leaders carefully plan and prioritize these services to provide ministry.

Your contributions to World Mission Tithes share Christ’s peace in ways that bring hope and healing to families, congregations, and the greater community. Thank you for giving generously.

Prayer for Peace:

God, we feel your presence in our lives. We feel your Spirit engaging us to action in the community. Bless us as we journey to the forefront to recognize the worth of persons and share the love and peace of Christ.

Spiritual Practice:

Hold (or imagine holding) a glass cup, bowl, or vase. Explore its shape, texture, and color. Let the container symbolize your life as it is being formed. Write on strips of paper (or in your journal) the things that are not yet just and whole in your life. Place the strips in the glass container and hold it in your hands. Pray a prayer of confession and petition, asking God to continue to breathe in and on you, shaping you into a just and compassionate person.

Peace Covenant:

Today, God, I will recognize the worth of all persons.
