Gently Used

Saturday, May 11

5.11By Sandi Ecker of Boyne City, Michigan, USA

…all shall give as they are able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you.

—Deuteronomy 16:17

Anyone who knows Ruthie will tell you that she’s a take-charge person. So no one in the Boyne City Congregation was surprised when Ruthie took charge of the new God’s Work Children’s Clothing Pantry. Inspired and named by the children of the congregation, the pantry welcomes all, as volunteers distribute new and gently used clothing to children.

On the second Saturday of each month, children scamper through the pantry’s organized aisles, searching for just the right outfit. Thanks to a mission grant, as well as congregational funding, the clothing is free. Families come and exchange gently used outgrown clothes for larger sizes. It’s working!

Your contributions to World Mission Tithes help congregations such as Boyne City provide life-changing ministry to children and families. Thank you for your faithful and generous response.

Prayer for Peace
Loving Parent, may the abundance of our pantries be shared with all who have need. May hospitality and love accompany goods shared. May hope be shared along with Christ’s peace.

Spiritual Practice: Experience Congregations in Mission
Read and reflect on Doctrine and Covenants 164:9a–d. Re-read the sentence, “If you truly would be Community of Christ, then embody and live the concerns and passion of Christ.” Make a list of the issues you feel mattered most to Christ. Make another list of issues that matter to your congregation. Reflect on the similarities and differences. How can you help align the lists? Throughout the day, as issues arise, ask yourself, “Would this matter to Christ?”

Peace Covenant
Today, God, I will look to the children for inspiration on ways to be generous.
