O Joy Is Mine

1-8By Norma J. Cross of Independence, Missouri, USA

For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace…

—Colossians 1:19–20

God works in mysterious ways—divine wonders to perform. The greatest wonder is that God came to Earth…as humanity itself. He was a babe, a child, a man who laughed

cried
ate
slept

His mother nurtured him. His earthly father taught him a trade. His divine Parent led him

grace upon grace
precept upon precept
God upon the Earth
to demonstrate how we could live—not only telling…but showing the way.

Then he gave himself completely—so we would not be separate from God or carry our guilt forever. I wonder at God’s grace revealed, the One in whom my soul rejoices. Had I been the only one to save, God would do the same.

Rejoice, O my soul, and sing praises unto God…O joy is mine!

Prayer for Peace
Divine Parent, we struggle, sometimes, with choices. Help us remember to look to Christ for the example of how we can live.

Spiritual Practice: Psalm Writing
The psalms are prayers of honesty and trust. The psalmist trusts God’s presence in times of fear and failure, joy and plenty, growth and change. Write a short psalm-prayer expressing to God the truth about your physical, emotional, and spiritual state. What are your deepest feelings, longings, and needs? What prayer of praise, intercession, or petition flows from you as you consider your life and the life of God’s world?

Peace Covenant
Today, God, I will learn from what Christ did as well as what he said.
